ASSISTANT PROGRAM OFFICER - Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) (posted 9-14-06)

Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) seeks an Assistant Program Officer for the Organizational Development Initiative, located in the New York office. LISC assists non-profit community development corporations (CDCs) in their efforts to transform distressed neighborhoods into healthy communities.  

Position Description:  The Assistant Program Officer (APO) acts as the right hand person to the Vice President for Organizational Development on a wide variety of issues. The APO directs evaluation of ODI’s programs and services; assists the VP in monitoring the progress of program projects;  writes funding proposals, concept papers, and progress reports; assists program staff and VP in identifying organizational development needs within LISC’s network and developing new products, programs, and services that are responsive to those needs; coordinates communications between the VP, local offices, and LISC’s national offices; and researches best practices among LISC’s numerous OD programs and creates forums for sharing them throughout LISC.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Carry out research projects, write funding proposals, and prepare presentation materials for speaking engagements and meetings by the VP for Organizational Development. Develop, analyze, and maintain effective management reports that monitor program efficiency and effectiveness. Organize staff meetings and track project progress. Direct the evaluation of ODI’s products and services, and identify proven best practices and emerging trends among LISC’s 20+ organizational development programs in the field. Coordinate meetings, online events, maintain resource libraries and websites, and otherwise facilitate the exchange of learning and best practices. Continually update and maintain ODI’s comprehensive intranet and internet sites, a constantly expanding resource of research, tools, templates, and links for capacity building used by LISC program staff and CDCs across the country.   Represent ODI and the VP at various meetings, with responsibility for taking notes and conveying critical information to other responsible staff. Work collaboratively with other program staff on specific research and development projects. Assist in the development, delivery, and evaluation of training programs for LISC staff and community development corporations. Author articles for professional journals as well as ODI’s monthly internal newsletter and marketing materials. Manage the marketing and technical aspects of ODI’s Experts Online Webcast Series. Qualifications: At least two years of related experience, preferably in the community development field.   Ability to think creatively and synthesize information from a variety of sources. Must be capable of conducting independent research and collecting information from multiple people and sources.Strong interpersonal skills, including the capacity to build and maintain a professional network of LISC organizational development practitioners across the country. Excellent writing skills and the ability to present information in a way that is clear, compelling, and concise. A writing sample is required. Strong presentation skills, including the ability to speak in front of groups and convey information orally in a clear and consistent way. Ability to utilize software programs such as Microsoft Office and have general familiarity with Windows-based computer systems. Demonstrated interest in nonprofit management, consulting, and/or community development. Proven ability to meet deadlines, achieve targets, and work independently. Must be a very positive, innovative, solution-oriented, results-focused professional with an ability to work well with diverse constituencies. Entrepreneurial spirit and great people skills, a must! Program Coordinator - Minority Worker Training (MWT)/BuildingWorks Program, New York District Council of Carpenters is a federally-funded 17-week “pre-apprentice” training program serving economically disadvantaged individuals seeking careers in construction and environmental remediation.  The program is currently hiring for the position of Program Coordinator.  The Program Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the outreach and recruitment process in collaboration with our community-based partners; providing ongoing programmatic and student support during the training; and assisting in the job placement activities post-graduation.  This is a very hands-on position and can demand patience and understanding, yet also requires the ability to firmly enforce the rules and regulations of the program and to ensure a high level of expectations from the students.  Applicants must, at minimum, posses a bachelors degree and should have experience in one or a combination of the following:  youth development; career counseling/job development; counseling/mentoring; social work; economic development; the building trades; or recruitment.  Applicants should have a familiarity with the communities of New York City and should, ideally, posses a knowledge of the social and supportive services landscape of New York’s municipal agencies and community-based organizations.  Salary is based on experience and will range from $40,000 to $47,500 with a generous package of union benefits.  Interested applicants should forward their resumes to dkillinger@nyccbf.org or via fax at (212) 366-7891.
